Fire
From earliest times fire has been one of man’s greatest benefactors as well one of
his greatest adversaries. Fire often conjures up images of comfort, security and
warmth. Most people take the art of making a fire for granted, especially since it is
so easy to start with a pack of matches or a lighter. Yet how much do you really
understand about fire? In an emergency do you think you could start a fire with only
one match? Or suppose you had to start a fire and did’t even have that. Do you
know the art of making a fire without matches?
Come and learn more about fire, how it works, how to start one and how to keep it
going safely and efficiently. Learn about the various components of a fire and how
they work together in harmony to keep the fire burning. In this class participants will
learn various ways to start a fire, primitively as well as learning the use of various
modern fire starting devices available today.
Learn the importance of having the proper material for use as a fire starter or tinder
as well as how to find it naturally and how to make it with modern material.
Additionally learn how to properly construct and maintain a fire in order to the gain
the maximum benefit from it.
Shelter
Exposure to the elements is often the primary cause of death to someone who
becomes lost in the wilderness. Come and learn how to increase your chances of
survival in the event you become lost or stranded in the wilderness. Learn the
importance of how to build, where to build and when to build a basic shelter that will
provide you with safety from exposure to the elements.
Participants will learn about several types of basic shelters. The class will learn how
to improvise a shelter with man made material that they may have available.
Additionally participants will learn to construct a shelter from natural materials
readily available in the wilderness.
Nature Walks
Slow down, relax and get some exercise by getting out of the house and enjoying
the beauty of nature. Join us for a comfortable walk through a local park as we learn
more about the natural world that surrounds us. On this walk we will identify various
local plants and trees as well as learning about their properties and uses. Learn a
little more about the local animal inhabitants and their habits from their tracks and
sign.
This is a basic class designed to stimulate your interest in learning more about the
natural world that you live in. Use this time out to reconnect with your natural self.
Enjoy a brief and relaxing respite from the fast pace of today’s world and rediscover
the beauty of the world of nature as close as your own backyard.
Emergency Preparedness
Disasters, either natural or man-made can strike anywhere at anytime. We hear
about them and the devastation they cause almost everyday in the News. Natural
disasters such as Hurricanes, Tornadoes, Floods, mud slides, wildfires, etc. are
becoming almost common place. Man-made disasters such as blackouts, chemical
spills, terrorist attacks, etc. once very rare are suddenly becoming more prevalent in
today’s modern global society.
How prepared are you in the event you are suddenly caught up in a disaster
situation? Do you know what the recommended minimum supplies are to make due
until Relief aid is available? In the event of a disaster are you and your family
sufficiently prepared to make due until the Red Cross and other disaster agencies
arrive with aid?
Learn how to prepare yourself and you loved ones before a disaster strikes.
Participants will learn how to develop a personal emergency plan and how to
implement it. Participants will also be shown how disaster preparations can be done
easily and economically with little disruption to their current lifestyle.

Personal Emergency Preparedness Plan
In the wake of Hurricane Katrina everyone should have an emergency plan and
some emergency supplies readily available. How prepared are you in the event you
are suddenly caught up in a disaster situation? Now more than ever, everyone
needs to have a plan of action and some basic supplies on hand in the event of an
emergency.
In this one hour plus consultation, I will assist you in building a solid foundation upon
which you can develop an emergency plan for you and your family. I will help you
learn what Emergency Response Agencies expect you to have in the event of a
disaster and I will also show you how to obtain these minimum recommended
supplies with little disruption to your current lifestyle.
This consultation will be tailored to address your and your family’s specific needs
and considerations. It can be conducted either at your home or mine at your
convenience.

Introduction to Track & Sign
Have you ever seen tracks in the woods and wonder what made them? Do you
have an interest in learning more about the tracks and sign animals leave behind?
Begin your exploration into the ancient art of tracking through this introductory
class. In this class participants will learn the basics of how to identify animals from
the tracks and signs that they have left behind. Participants will also make their own
tracking sticks and learn how they are used as well as learning how to make
castings of tracks.
Allow your journey of discover concerning the wealth of information that the animal
has left behind in its track to begin here. After this class, tracks will no longer appear
as just simple marks upon the earth, but rather a story left behind for you to read.
